teach your subject in a CLIL context

If you were not limited by the demands of the national/regional curriculum, what would you say is the most important thing you would teach your students about your subject (in a CLIL context)? How would you assess their learning?

From my background participating in the Spanish program “Profesores Visitantes en Estados Unidos” since last August I saw the same kind of program than CLIL.They are using it form Spanish natives that have to learn to use a proficiency level of English The English language learners had a state test that supervise the process learning of the English during the scholar life.
To be more accurate answering the question, I think that most important to teach in my subjects (science, math or social studies) using a second /third language is to learn the contents by different activities .For example:drawing activities, make projects that shows new vocabulary and pictures , using manipulative activities to understand your words in the other language. The activity that engaged more the students was singing songs with the subtitles, but never been translated.
Songs are so basic because students have fun, listen, read, pronounce and learn how to write words related to the contents. For example:
Use,reduce and recycle
EXAMPLE : GOING GREEN! (Earth Day song for kids about the 3 R’s- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

This activitie really works for the firsts years of inmersion .Then,they will be able to start to use basic sentences.Not only learn, they will remember the vocabulary.

Another important detail to teach kids they are able to express or use different ways to say something.If they do not remember the exactly word but they understand the meaning or how works, they will be successful using hints.So for example,

A kid that doesn´t remember the word (bycicle)they could give some clues to make sure that the others understand him.
“A vehicle with two tires,were you are sitted and use your legs to move it and your hands to handle” or “vehicle does not need fuel to been moved and has two tires”

How would you assess their learning?
Related to the second question,I will grade their learning process by uploading 2 grades per week.One would be a classwork activity and other would be a short test to make sure they have learned the content.
If the students are very lost with the vocabulary I will let them to make a homemade dictionary were they will be able to write the key words basics of the unit.For example: earthquake, magma, volcanoe, natural disasters.
I will give them at least a C if they completed the answers of the assessment but they words were misspelled.

I do not have enough experience to answer that question. I am expecting to learn more in that subject of the university. Anyway from my part, I will continue next school year working hard and learning from my partners, looking for new webpages interesting to use and having a better results.
